About Matthew

Matt is a Masters student in the Department of Industrial Technology. He holds a bachelors degree in Computer and Information Technology. His research interests focus on comparing biometrics to other authentication mechanisms such as secrets or tokens for both physical and logical access control on the basis of entropy. During the 2005 summer, Matt interned with SAFLINK Corporation in Reston Virginia. He is a member of the Center for Education and Research in Information Assurance and Security (CERIAS) and expected to finish his Masters in May of 2007; at which time he plans to pursue a doctorate in the BSPA Lab.

Since becoming a member of the lab as an undergrad in 2004, Matt has been actively involved in development and implementation of Biometric Standards. One of the major initiatives he has been working on since June 2005 is the Ad Hoc Group on Biometrics and E-Authentcation (AHGBEA); which he serves as the technical editor of the study report being produced. This group is charged with providing ways which biometrics could be used in e-authentcation, as well as recommendations for the inclusion of biometrics in NIST SP 800-63-Electronic Authentication Guideline, which was published in June 2004 in response to OMB-M04-04-E-Authentication Guidance for Federal Agencies.
