Hand Geometry

This research is being led by Eric Kukula and Matthew Young

Hand Geometry is the most popular access control biometric modality according to the latest figures. The Biometrics Lab has been using hand geometry continuously as a form of access control and attendance. Recent projects have included creating a wireless hand geometry machine for use in areas where a wired solution isnt appropriate; using the Purdue University Recreation Center as a test bed for students to learn about operational testing; and finally the testing and evaluation of hand geometry devices.

Hand geometry has also featured in a number of initiatives that the lab has organized, including access control for the Manufacturing Security initiative. The lab has a number of hand geometry devices that we use for teaching both undergraduate and graduate students.
